Why Confident Motherhood?
As a child and youth, I always envisioned myself as a philanthropist. It is something I saw my parents practice in our community. My mother had her own and very successful business with a floral shop and she helped women in her community by providing employment and was very active in the community.
Growing up with a mother who had such a creative and entrepreneurial spirit, I aspired to be like her. I have always been full of dreams of such ventures. As I got older, it never faded as a passion for me nor did I ever stop thinking about it. I evolved in different areas in my life but about 3 years ago, the passion to become an entrepreneur turned into a dream and that dream into reality.
Confident Motherhood was founded with the hopes to help women, especially mothers. To help them believe in themselves, in their abilities, their dreams, hopes and to ultimately accomplish dreams by placing all of them into action. The ethos behind the brand is simple yet revolutionary: create beautiful and functional items while giving back to the women whose hands create them.
What inspired Confident Motherhood? My children. I didn’t want something because I’d have a sustainable income. Trust me, that takes time. I am not even there yet (but will be). I wanted to connect to Mother’s who are going through motherhood just like I am. A place for them to share their journey and to help me with mine. It’s an escape to be free, without judgment. It doesn’t matter where they are in their journey, we are all traveling it together.
As a mother and handmade business owner, I know all too well the struggle in providing for my family. Time and time again my own handmade business has been my family’s source of income. That’s why I decided to launch an all-woman-made, ethically sourced clothing company that not only provides beautiful and bespoke handmade items, but enriches and enlivens the lives of at-risk women – single mothers, widows, and mothers of children with disabilities – in Nicaragua with the hopes to be able to turn global.
While we are creating jobs for these amazing and talented artisans, we are not only providing a physical need, we are providing emotional stability. Knowing that they are able to provide for their families. Not having to wonder if they will have enough food on the table or if their lights will be on for the week. We see this first-hand when we visit in missions. The need but along with a need, there is a desire we see in women. They wish for different and they are willing to work for different.
